Governor Tells Goleta Chamber He Supports Carbon Limits

Tuesday, August 24, 2010
During a stop in Goleta on Aug. 24, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger voiced full-throated opposition to Prop. 23, the November ballot initiative that would suspend a cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions set to take effect next year.  read more »

Vote No On Proposition 23

Sunday, August 22, 2010
The most important vote Californians cast in November may not be in the governor's race but on Proposition 23, the measure to suspend the state's landmark global warming law. The initiative would devastate efforts to create a vibrant clean-energy sector and have a disastrous impact on the state's economy. Vote no on Proposition 23.  read more »

Cleantech industry coming out against Prop. 23

Thursday, August 19, 2010
If voters roll back California's landmark climate change bill in November, the state's burgeoning cleantech economy and the jobs it has created will face serious jeopardy. That was the consensus of cleantech leaders who gathered Tuesday morning at Google's Mountain View campus to talk about the state's leadership in clean energy and to rally opposition to Proposition 23.  read more »

California's choice: Build the future, or burn the planet

Thursday, August 19, 2010
Voters in November will have an opportunity to ratify the decision to bet on a clean energy future, or shoot themselves in the foot and slip back into carbon-dioxide-stained past. It may well end up being one of the most important votes Californians get to make in their entire lives.  read more »

Going Green Could Bring In The Green

Wednesday, August 18, 2010
The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, which received strong support from both business groups and environmentalists, is designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade. With its passage, Californians recognized that sustaining our environment and our economy, ideals that were traditionally pitted against each other, are mutually beneficial.  read more »

Missouri conservative group fights for Prop. 23

Monday, August 9, 2010
One of the largest single contributions to the campaign for a November ballot measure to suspend California's greenhouse gas reduction law has come from an obscure, Missouri-based conservative organization that ended 2009 with just $109.    Opponents working for the campaign against the ballot measure say the large donation amounts to money laundering. "We have no idea who in the state of Missouri or anywhere on the planet has given half a million dollars to our opponents," said Steven Maviglio, a spokesman for the campaign against Prop. 23.  read more »

Proposition 23 is a job killer

Monday, August 9, 2010
The Golden State is the runaway leader in the transition to the new clean tech economy. When we passed a law four years ago — AB 32 — with bipartisan support from business, labor, environmental and health care leaders, we made California a leader in the emerging clean tech economy. The charge to repeal AB 32, through a Texas oil company funded ballot measure know as Proposition 23, is a serious mistake, which threatens California's lead in emerging industries, potentially destroying our economy for a generation to come.   read more »

Economy Sags, Green Tech Investment Surges

The anemic economic recovery may have hit the dog days of summer with consumer spending and factory orders slowing, but the new energy economy continues to surge, according to a report released Tuesday by Ernst & Young.  read more »

Top Economists Agree: Don't Block AB 32

Thursday, July 29, 2010
More than 100 Ph.D. economists with expertise in California energy and climate issues joined a growing chorus of supporter for the state's energy and climate security law. We released an open letter warning against any delay in the implementation of California clean energy policies. The letter, organized by the Union of Concerned Scientists, features a broad array of leading economists who disagree with those who want to stop implementation of pollution reduction policies. "Delaying action now," the letter states, "will be more costly than initiating action now."   read more »

Vets vs. Big Oil: Prop 23 in California

Thursday, July 29, 2010
It's no shock, then, that big oil has pushed a ballot proposition this year - Prop 23 - that would delay (with the purpose of killing) The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. That state law would unilaterally bring California into near compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, mandating that emissions of greenhouse gasses in the state return to 1990 levels by the year 2020.    read more »
